If you haven’t attended Camp Luther for an event let me calm your fears. There are no tents to worry about. You’ll be staying in cozy dorm-like rooms with bunk beds inside the Retreat Center. You will need to bring a twin sheet and bedding or a sleeping bag and pillow, but that’s all on your list that will be sent to you. The good news is that everything is all on one floor so there are no steps to worry about getting to and from your room carrying your luggage to and from the car. There are two wings to the center with the big meeting room where you’ll have devotions right in between. So, in case of rain, there’s no running around outside except to head to the dining hall which again, no worries. It’s right next door!
There is a basement at the Retreat Center that is used sometimes for one event, but it is easily accessed via an outside sidewalk without having to worry about steps. (How do I know this? I have bad knees. For the ONE time I needed to go there, I just walked around the back of the Retreat Center and popped in that way. So did many other women, just saying.)
This is is a retreat for women of all ages. There may be some women with newborns and maybe even a few with a walker or cane. So, you’ll fit in.
There will be some free time available while you are there. I think some of the younger gals went to the zip line and hiked. I took my book and found a quiet spot and read for a while during one of my breaks. On another, a group of us from Cross took a lovely pontoon ride all around the lake! On Saturday, you usually have a free afternoon. Last time, the Cross gals went shopping in Eagle River while other gals from the retreat went into Three Lakes and took a tour of their winery. There’s crafts, mission projects and oh…bring money for the camp store! There’s chocolate! Plus, the usual camp t-shirts and stuff you can buy!
The food is regular food. It’s good. You’ll like it. Forget bad camp meals. This is good Lutheran stuff. You’ll be fine. Plus, you’ll be able to recognize everything on your plate. If you have any special food requirements, there’s a place on your registration form to mention it. If not, attach a note.
Every woman is concerned about the bathroom. Ok, you’ll be sharing a communal bathroom with other women in your wing. It’s fine. There are doors to the stalls and private showers, So, don’t get freaked out that you’re going to relive a summer camp nightmare. Toss some shower shoes or flip flops in your bag for your feet and you’ll be fine.
You can have up to 4 women in your room, so register EARLY or they’ll assign your roommates for you. They need to fill the retreat. IF you already know who you want to room with, put their name(s) on your registration sheet. You can pay a deposit now and the balance when you arrive.
The cost is $135 per person. Now, this includes your room and board for the weekend- 2 nights, 4 meals and full retreat planning. Personally, I have attended this retreat probably 10 times in the last 25 years. EVERY time, the program was EXCELLENT and UPLIFTING and INSPIRING!
